The free eBooks section contains works in progress by new authors. The authors have agreed to give access to our readers in order to gather comments on their work.
You are encouraged to download these books and stories. There is no cost for this except that you must agree to read, or at least attempt to read, each selection that you download and then post one or more comments for the author.
Your comments can be extremely valuable. Writing is an unfortunately solitary pastime. Until you are a success, most people who read your work are known to you, and unwilling to give honest commentary. Feedback on things as simple as spelling errors and grammar problems, inconsistencies that slipped through, and fact checking, or as complex as characters that need definition or plot devices that are not successful, is needed to get a book or story ready for publication. Positive comments are also appreciated.
The most valuable resource that I had in finishing my first book were the people who pointed out that I had not explained why my characters could make radio tubes but not light bulbs, that the 50 caliber tri-pod machine gun was the wrong weapon to use in one scene, that the opening was the most boring part of the book, and that they damned well couldn’t follow the conversation in a couple of spots. It also helped when they complemented me on how good some of it was, because encouragement from strangers is the best salve an ego ever had. You can be that resource for the authors on this page.
